Rock Anthems is a free music app for Windows 8. This app contains greatest rock hits that rocked the music charts when they got released. There are a total of 150 approx. rock songs, and you can watch videos of these songs all for free. The collection consists of songs from ’50s, ’60s, ’70s, ’80s, ’90s, 2000, and recent. Some videos are taken from concerts and some are kept as original. The app has a good collection of tracks, which includes Jailhouse Rock by Elvis Presley, I want to hold your hand by The Beatles, Sympathy for the devil by Rolling Stones, Dream On by Aerosmith, Back in Black by ACDC, Breaking the law by Judas Priest, Sweet Child O’ mine by Guns N’ Roses, and many more. The 50s’ videos are really old, for example: That’ll be the Day by Buddy Holly & His Crickets, and Blowin’ in the Wind by Bob Dylan etc. The app also shows facts about each particular song. So, it’s a great medium to learn about your favorite song of all time.

Like said before the app’s collection of rock music is good. Although it contains some semi rock songs as well. All the tracks available within the app were huge hits of their time. Browsing for these songs in web, is time consuming (specially for videos), the app simplifies this problem by bringing down many of the rock hits in one place. It is easy to access songs within the app with few mouse clicks, as they are categorized by the year they got released. You can play videos either in normal mode or in full screen mode. The playback controls are standard, which are: play, pause, stop, mute, and volume. You can switch between tracks by browsing through the app or directly through the track’s screen by clicking the previous and next button present at both ends of screen. The app also lets you search for particular song by using Windows Search Charm (Win + Q combo) and share a particular song’s fact via Windows Share Charm (Win+ H combo). The app’s interface is easy to use, and the track’s cover look decent. The schematic zoom feature adds more to the functionality of app as it makes track browsing quick and easy.

Rock Anthems is a good to have music app for Windows 8. The collection is recommendable. Although there are some minor problems with the app such as there are few non rock songs, some tracks didn’t play in my system. And the app requires more number of songs and a feature to add own songs. Still it’s a well designed, easy, and quick app. And above all, you are getting everything completely free.
