Here’s a list of 5 comic book reader apps for Android which you can use to read popular comic book formats on your Android powered devices. Judging by the number of extremely successful movies that were based on comics we should all pay our respects to the thing that started it all and read through a couple of comics. Following list of apps can help you read and manage pretty much every comic book format out there.
Let’s see what they have to offer exactly.
Challenger Comics Viewer
Challenger Comics Viewer is a simplistic comic book reader app, but it supports a lot of popular comic book formats, practically all of them.
So far, it can read ePUB, RAR, CBR, ZIP, CBZ, PDF, BMP, WebP, GIF, PNG, and JPG formats. It has a built-in library module where you can manage you comic books (sort, delete, etc). Reader itself doesn’t have any kind of distractions. Tap on the screen flips to the next page. This app is optimized for both tablets and smartphones (smaller screens).
Komik Reader – Free
Komik Reader is a small comic book reader app, less than 1MB in size, perfect for those who are short on storage space. Format support includes CBR, CBZ, and image directories.
First time that you run the app you’ll be asked to select your comic book directory. After doing that it will load comic books into its library from where they can be opened and managed. Reader works in both vertical and horizontal screen mode. Tap on the screen opens up a quick jump page browser, see image above.

A Comic Viewer
A Comic Viewer is another lightweight comic book viewer app where you don’t even get a library manager.
You just get an “Open” button with which you load up the comic book that you want to read. A list of recently opened files does exist to help you reopen files. What’s interesting above A Comic Viewer is that it uses volume buttons to switch between pages, next to the on-screen buttons which you can see on the image above. Zoom is supported with a special setting that lets you fill out the entire screen with the page when reading.

ComicRack Free
ComicRack Free is the complete opposite of the two previously mentioned comic book apps.
It has a lot of advanced features, starting with a comic book library where they are grouped on recently added, unread and recently opened. Supported formats include CBZ, CBR, CB7, CBT, PDF, DJVU, and WebComics. Reader is very impressive. It has media-player like control at the bottom or alternatively you can turn on full-screen reading.

Astonishing Comic Reader
Astonishing Comic Reader will automatically detect the comics stored on your device and import them to the library.
This comic book reader app is again more simplistic when it comes to functionalities and it focuses more on minimalism when it comes to the actual reader interface. Swipe left/right to switch between pages. App has day/night modes, full screen, is optimized for tablets and reads CBR/CBZ comic formats.
Conclusion
Each one of the comic book apps from the list above is interesting in its own way. The two that are the most interesting to me are ComicRack and Komik Reader. Start with these two and try one of the remaining three if they do not live up to your expectations. They worked great for me.
