Microsoft has added DNS over HTTPS in the latest Microsoft Edge insider builds and you can now enable it. In this post, I’ll show you how to enable secure DNS for browsing websites in Microsoft Edge. Right now Microsoft Edge secure DNS supports Cloudflare DNS, Google DNS, Quad9 DNS, and Clean Browsing DNS. After you enable secure DNS, Edge will now use DNS over HTTP based on the provider you have specified and not the one that your ISP provides.
Secure DNS is a very good option if you want to keep your browsing activities private. There are plenty of secure DNS providers out there you can configure and browse internet without having to worry that your requests are being logged or watched. Google Chrome had this feature for quite some time now and Microsoft also added this to Edge but due to some instability they removed it. But now they have again introduced it in the insider builds and I’m sure it will soon be available in the stable ones. For now on, you can just turn it on from privacy settings and choose the secure DNS provider from the list.
How to Enable Secure DNS for Browsing Websites in Microsoft Edge?
Configuring secure DNS in Microsoft Edge is very simple. All you have to do is just go to the Edge settings by clicking the three dot icon at the top right side.
Go to the “Privacy, search, and services” settings and then browse to the secure DNS option. If it is not enabled by default then you just have to enable it first and then you select any secure DNS provider from the list. Save the changes and then come back to the browsing and from now on you are using a secure DNS that Edge provides.
This is all you have to do in order to enable secure DNS in Microsoft Edge. This option only seems to be available in beta and developer builds for now. But I hope it will soon arrive in the stable channels because other competitor Chrome already has it.
