AI is the next big thing and yet there is very little knowledge about AI among the people. And, the few people who are familiar with AI have drastically varying speculation about it. Some people see it as the greatest achievement of humankind that would revolutionize the way we work. Whereas some people advice to be cautious about AI as it’s going to change almost everything and one wrong move could lead to bad results. So, a basic understanding of AI among people is important.
There are lots of free online crash courses on AI but most of those are focused on the technicality only which is hard to grasp for average people. Finland, a country that already made its name in the education system, created an AI course to teach its citizens about AI. This course is not made available to everyone for free.

Finland AI Course Online to Learn Basics of AI
Elements of AI is a free online AI course that teaches the basics of AI. The course is designed by Reaktor and the University of Helsinki. It is currently available in Finish, English, German, Estonian, and Swedish and joined by 230K students from 110 countries. This course combines theory with practical exercises and can be completed at your own pace. It shed light on various aspects beyond technicality like how AI might affect your job or life, what it really means, how it’s going to develop, and so on.
This course has 6 following chapters:
- Chapter 1: What is AI?
- Chapter 2: AI Problem Solving
- Chapter 3: Real-world AI
- Chapter 4: Machine Learning
- Chapter 5: Neural Networks
- Chapter 6: Implications
Each chapter has 3 sections; each section is followed by optional exercises. Each section is supposed to take anywhere between 5 to 10 hours to complete which makes the overall course duration to six weeks.
There is a second part to this course that focuses on the methods of building AI covering actual algorithms. The second part is still under work and scheduled to launch by the end of this year.
