This is simple tutorial that will explain how to remove duplicate photos in Windows 8. In this tutorial we will remove duplicate pictures in Windows 8 using the app called Photo De-dupe. This small app for Windows 8 scans your picture folder in Windows 8 for duplicate files.
After this app has scanned the picture folder for duplicates, it presents you with preview of the duplicates. This is quite useful because you will not have to hunt for the pictures on your PC and open them individually.
The only downside of this app is that it is only able to scan for duplicate pictures in Windows 8 pictures folder and does not go through the whole computer even not through the documents folders. This tutorial will be a little shorter than usual as the app is very simple and straightforward.
Steps to remove duplicate pictures in Windows 8:
- The first and obvious thing that you are supposed to do is download the Photo De-dupe. So to download Photo De-dupe just click on this link which will open up the Windows 8 app store from where you can download and install the app onto you Windows 8 PC.
- After you have successfully downloaded and installed the app, just find it and click on its tile on the start screen to run it.
- And you will have the interface in front of you as shown in the screenshot below. The app scans and shows you the duplicate pictures in Windows 8 directly; you do not need to do anything here. The duplicate pictures will be presented to you as shown in the screenshot below. If it is unable to find any duplicates Photo De-Dupe will show the interface as shown in the first screenshot of this post.
- To delete a duplicate file just click on it and you will have the interface as shown in front of you. Just select the photo that you want to delete from the two copies and click on the delete button on the bottom part of the app window.
In this manner just remove unnecessary picture duplicates in Windows 8.
The app is quite basic, and the fact that it scans only Pictures folder limits its use a lot. Still, if that is where you keep most of your photos, then this app can come handy.
