DimDim is a free tool to conduct online webinars and screen sharing sessions. DimDim lets you share documents and presentations, share your screen, and even hold voice conference – all for free.
I have been using DimDim since it was in early beta phase (that was long back). I was completely stunned by its quality and usefulness at that time itself, and was surprised by the fact that it was totally free. It continues to be free today, for up to 20 people, and has improved even more since then.
One of the most popular online webinar tool is Webex. However, it is quite pricey, but does has solid features. DimDim comes pretty close in terms of features, and is absolutely free for up to 20 people. This would make it the perfect replacement for Webex if you are looking for saving some money on your online meetings.
[Another free software that you can try for online web confencing is Mikogo.]
Here are some of the features of this free Webinar tool:
Share your Screen:
With DimDim, you can share your screen with your participants. They can see what you are seeing and doing on your screen. You can choose to share a particular application or document or the whole screen. DimDim has mentioned on their website that in future participants will be able to request control of mouse and keyboard of the host’s machine.
Share Documents:
DimDim presents a very easy way to present documents in an online webinar. You start by uploading your document (whether ppt or PDF) to DimDim. DimDim converts that to a Flash file. In your online webinar, you can then directly present from that file. Your online webinar participants see what you see. You can even use built-in laser pointer, annotation and zoom tools. Once you are done with your online presentation, DimDim will delete the document that you had uploaded, so you don’t need to worry about someone getting hold of them.
Share Web Pages:
DimDim has an interesting feature of synchronized browsing. Start scrolling through any web page and Dimdim’s SynchroLive Co-Browsing feature will take care of the rest – as you scroll the webpage on your computer, your guest will see what you see and their view will scroll with you.
Share your webcam:
You can even share your webcam, so that everyone can see you as well while watching your presentation.
Share your mic:
Up to 3 persons can share microphones to have a VOIP Audio conference. DimDim also provides a free voice conference bridge that everyone can join.
Record the meetings:
On click of a button, you can record your online meetings. At the end of the meeting, DimDim sends you a URL of your recording. You cam share that with others, embed it on your website, or download your recorded content.
As you can see from above, DimDim is packed with tremendous features, and still it is free for up to 20 participants. Love it!
