Rasterbator is a free software that can create rasterized version of images which are images made up of small dots. You can then take the print out of these images and assemble the pages to create a poster or a banner for your work. You can then print rasterized poster using some free poster printer.
The rasterized images might not look like the original picture but would definitely have an artistic appeal suiting your intent.
Rasterbator is completely free of cost and there is no need for any installation. All you have to do is unzip the file using a free unzip software and run the application. You do need some free pdf reader on your computer to be able to run Rasterbator.
The print out comprises of many sheets which might look confusing to you while assembling them together so you need to do that yourself by keeping all the print outs in front of you.
Rasterbator has five different screens with different options for you to select. Lets take a look at them :
SELECT SOURCE IMAGE:
This is the basic step where you need to select the file you wish to rasterbate by entering the file name or browsing for it.
SELECT PAPER SIZE:
The image now gets split into various pages and you need to select the size of the paper you want.You can either select the standard A4 size or US letter and choose either landscape or portrait printing or you can customize the size by entering the width and the height
DEFINE OUTPUT SIZE
Now you have to choose the size of the poster you wish to have. You will have to specify the amount of papers to the dimensions – width and height and it will give you a preview of what the page will look like.
SET RASTERBATION OPTIONS
Here you set the options like the following:
- You can draw a cutout line around the rasterbated area which will make it easier for you to cut away the empty margins
- You can set the dot size which can be either small for small images or large for large images.Typically it should be between 5 and 25 mm
- You can change the color mode which is by default black which are one colored dots.You can select multi color dots which will give you the original color from the source image in your rasterbated image
SAVE RASTERBATION
You can now save the image which by default will be saved according to the file name and source file and the suffix .jpg would be replaced with .pdf. Now you have to choose the size of the poster you wish to have. You will have to specify the amount of papers to the dimensions – width and height and it will give you a preview of what the page will look like.
It is very easy to use. After setting all the options you just have to click on the ‘rasterbate’ button and the output image is ready. You can even set the program on a low priority mode so that it works slowly and you can at the same time work on other programs.
It is free of cost and works like a charm. Now you can create posters and banners for your work and make it look artistic with this program.
