CCSIO (Cold-cache Sequential I/O) Benchmark is a free Windows software to determine disk read and write speed. There are already many software to test disk speed but this software makes disk speed checking more informative and easy. Just start the test and it will use all the possible combinations to calculate the read and write speed of your disk. It displays a real-time graph of the disk check process and logs the current disk read/write speed in each test. You can also dig deep and see additional info of each test case used to measure disk speed like a buffer count, input/output mode, and measured read/write rate of each test.
The screenshot above displays the disk speed report which mentions the best read rate and the best write rate out of the total tests performed by it. You can also see the information of your hard drive like device name, type of file system, etc on its main interface.
How to monitor real-time disk read and write speed using CCSIO Benchmark:
The download link of CCSIO Benchmark is provided at the end of this review. After you have installed this software, you will see its interface as in the screenshot below. In order to start the disk speed tests, select a drive from the drop-down and then click on the Start button. CCSIO Benchmark will then start the disk read tests proceeded by the write tests. This will take quite a few minutes depending upon the speed of your hard disk. You can also skip the read tests to immediately start the write disks test. You can even skip the write disks tests to view the report of the speed tests performed.
If you want to know what’s going on under the hoods, then click on the Show button to see the details of each write and read test. By default, you will see a real-time graph of the measured disk speed.
Verdict:
CCSIO Benchmark is an excellent software to test disk read and write speed as it uses all possible settings to measure the best read and write rate of your hard drive. It also displays a real-time graph and additional info of all the read and write tests performed by it. This makes it good for analytical purposes as well.
