Pholor Express is a free digital photo editor which you can use to make changes and corrections to images, especially those created with digital cameras that don’t always turn out the way they should. Free version of Pholor comes with less features than the paid versions, but even without the advanced features of the commercial Pholor version you can still edit photos in a lot of different ways:
- Modify image sharpness
- Increase clarity
- Dehaze photos
- Change brightness, saturation, temperature, contrast
- Adjust the rotation and change aspect ratio
To use Pholor Express you’re gonna need to have .NET Framework 4.0 installed on your system, a bit more powerful graphics card is also necessary with updated versions of DirectX 9, otherwise the program will report errors when started.
Default theme of the Pholor interface might be a little bit to gray for some, but don’t worry it can be changed by clicking on the Background button in the lower right corner of the application. There you can change the theme to several different colors, which should be less tiring on the eyes. In the left lower corner we have three tabs that are important a lot when it comes to Pholor, the File tab, which you can see on the image above, where images are browsed and opened, and the Common and Transform tabs, where actual photo editing tools are housed.

Simple digital photo editor – Pholor
While having the File tab opened, browse to the folder where your images are stored, you can open and edit photos directly from your camera, if it’s connected, but it’s better that you create photo duplicates and then edit them.
On the image above, we can see tab with Common tools opened. Image sharpness and clarity editors can come in very handy on photos which are blurry or not very clear for some other reason. Other image editing options are pretty common when it comes to image editors, brightness, contrast and saturation can be used to adjust the photo lighting. Photos taken in late afternoons, bordering with evenings are rarely properly lit, with Pholor you can edit them easily.
Photo orientation isn’t always the same, and it needs to be edited when viewing images on the computer, with Pholor you can do this easily, simply open up the photo, and click on the one of predetermined image orientations, or move the slider and change the orientation manually. Aspect ratio can be changed also, so that photos can be displayed without the squeeze effect across several different screen types.
Conclusion
Digital photo editing is something that very few people do, which is a shame because it could really help out a lot by fixing various different errors that are known to pop up when taking pictures. A lot of small edits that Pholor offers can improve photos a lot, changing images is as easy as moving sliders for whichever image aspect you wish to change.
