Blockchain-based iCloud Alternative to Store Files, Photos, Contacts, Notes
DClouds is built upon the Blockstack platform which is a Blockchain-based platform to build decentralized apps. Since it’s an encrypted decentralized service, the signup and login process is a little different. Instead of using an email ID, this service uses Blockstack ID to log in. If you don’t have a Blockstack ID, you can create one here.
When you log in to DClouds, it takes you to the dashboard where it lists all the categories to store different types of files. Here are all the storage categorizations:
- Notes: Upload and storage note files.
- Contacts: Upload and add contacts with contact photos and Blockstack ID.
- Drive: Upload any file of files like documents, archives, music, etc and organized with folders.
- Calendar: A calendar where you can add your events and keep them secure.
- Photos: Upload photos and organize them in albums.
After opening any of these storage categories, you can easily switch between them from the top side. It does not support bulk upload at the moment. No matter what types of files you are uploading, you can to upload them one by one. Up to an initial 10 GB of storage, there is no speed or file size limit. Once you pass the 10 GB mark, you get a limited speed with 10 MB of maximum file size limit.
Give it a try here.
Closing Words:
DClouds is a free decentralized online storage platform that provides you full control over your data. This service is a bit slow and takes more than usual to load the storage and upload the files. It can’t be your primary cloud storage for backup at the moment but it’s a secure and fully encrypted option that you can use along with your regular cloud storage platform.
